Uriel Tripp – thirty-five and an invulnerable former teenage hero riddled with daddy issues – does gig work solving political disputes as an undefeated wizard duelist. When her eavesdropping at a holiday party uncovers a plot to ignite a civil war, she takes it upon herself to stop it. But Uriel can’t do it alone.  While she wrestles with the glowing red tape of wizard bureaucracy, Uriel gathers a group of powerful friends.

From her girlfriend, Aanya, a spellslinger for hire, to a competitive duelist with unclassified spells to a fat goblin witch, Uriel’s  friends guide and support her as she confronts the trauma of her past in order to save the future of their city.

 Alongside her queer found family, she must win a tournament, fight giant monsters, and stop a coup before it boils over.
